What are the strengths of this product?

OpenLM has the unique ability to manage the time-out release of Siemens PLM NX licenses. This has allowed us much greater flexibility in our requirements to purchase additional seats of CAD software.

What are the strengths of this product?

OpenLM is incredibly easy to use and very simple to setup. If an admin knows all the ports to monitor on which servers, they can probably get OpenLM running in a matter of hours rather than the days it takes for some other systems. They also work very closely with their customer to make improvements and add new features. For an organization with a few services and a monthly or semi-annual audit schedule, openLM is a great tool.

What are the weaknesses of this product?

With the constant updates and new features, comes database changes and API modifications. We wanted to add some of the openLM data to our intranet site so our users could see some usage data without knowing about openLM. Since the API has not documentation and the database changed significantly between v1.8 and v2 we couldn't build anything that we were confident would work for more than 2 weeks.

What features would you add if you had the choice?

OpenLM really needs to open up the data for access by external reporting. At the moment, they are constantly updating the db structure. They offer an API, which was recently changed as well. If they are not going to open up the database, at least setup some more complex reporting schemas. Right now, openLM is really strong in almost real-time data, but historical data can be a struggle sometimes. Especially with everything exporting to 10k+ line excel spreadsheets.

What are the strengths of this product?

The ability to address issues and work directly with you to get them resolved. Also, it's nice to deal with the same individuals whenever an issue arises. I believe this builds a better relationship between the client and the company. Also, they are willing to work with you to add more features where feasible. And lastly, frequent updates are nice, it lets you know that they are constantly improving their product!

What are the weaknesses of this product?

I wouldn't necessarily called it a weakness but when I ask for additional features, it usually takes some time to get a solution. I believe this falls under the R&D part of the company which usually has other tasks they are working on.

What features would you add if you had the choice?

None for now.
