What are the strengths of this product?

The asset gathering capabilities of the tool are top notch and allow for gathering inventory from not only the end points but from B2B and custom sources as well. Data Analytics is a key component that offers a huge benefit to the product's ability to automate a lot of process flows after analyzing data. Data Analytics also makes using Software License Monitoring very simple, by automating all of the license discovery, entitlement, and assignment for you once it is configured. The LDMS database is also very extensible and the schema is easily expanded to include additional information about any asset. Xtraction also provides a very simple to use and flexible dash-boarding and reporting technology. Reporting is definitely not a weakness to the LANDESK reporting stack. The data discovery and SLM tools also allow for reporting on SaaS products and their usage information, which makes it very helpful with modern cloud based products. Lastly the SLM automatic reclamation functionality is very good and extremely powerful - allowing the ability to have customized messages presented to users before uninstalling or reclaiming software (based on usage rules), and automatically adding that software to their self-service portals if they need it back.

What are the weaknesses of this product?

Steep learning curve for understanding how each of the different components tie together. Very broad set of tools, with sometimes non-intuitive methods for centralizing information (mostly a training issue to get resolved). Bug fixes take a long time to occur.

What features would you add if you had the choice?

Contract management / some type of feed of up-coming contracts that will expire, similar to their existing warranty/hardware refresh feed would be helpful. Improved customization of the Asset Workspace without purchasing their Service Desk would also be a good improvement. Overall great product!

What are the strengths of this product?

LANDESK captures a ton of data from the machines and has many additional features to pull in even more data from other sources like Active Directory. With the data, process flows, and a little imagination, you can do pretty much anything you want with this tool!

What are the weaknesses of this product?

Some of the reporting or canned reports are good, but it's not easy to build a custom report for everyone. The tool can do many things and many ways to do the same thing, but easier custom reporting would be a plus!

What features would you add if you had the choice?

I would add Xtraction for the reporting and dashboard creation along with easier ways to create queries via the inventory, and/or external data like Active Directory. Also I would add easier notifications, custom dialog boxes for specific use cases, like patching. LANDESK does a great job of telling what's failed, what's missing, etc...but it's a "custom" report to show how many successful patches, software deployments, images, etc...

What are the strengths of this product?

Breadth of features and functionality is excellent. Good ability to automate and streamline business processes across a variety of domains.

What are the weaknesses of this product?

Complexity requires a great deal of time and training investment to get the most out of the tools. User access can be cumbersome to manage.

What features would you add if you had the choice?

Better remote control / remote assistance tools. Quick-start, "wizard", etc. tools to assist users with configuration and management tasks. Better web-based tools and reporting.

What are the strengths of this product?

Auto product recognition. Data Analytics / Rules based product creation.

What are the weaknesses of this product?

Dated , sometimes non-standard Windows interface. Poor copy / paste. Asset Control data management - often easier to retain data in Excel for its ease of editing and bulk changes. The LANDesk SAM solution is a collection of tools gathered together, often through acquisition, that do not necessarily sit entirely comfortably with each other. Some features are excellent, yet when used in conjunction with another feature, don not work well as a single solution. e.g. Data Analytics Licensed Software rules and the Software License Manager - its not pretty. In order to offer a high degree of flexibility LANDesk does not do what it says 'out of the box' - it is better viewed as a collection of toolkits that will only be as good as the customers imagination and the availability of resources to realize the true benefits. Jack of a number of trades, master of few.

What features would you add if you had the choice?

User based licensing. Concurrent use licensing. SaaS management. Improved asset management. Improved reporting.
